Weekend

Shakespeare in the Park at last (patience and luck prevailed). French toast with fresh mascarpone at Extra Virgin in the morning. The best coffee in my neighborhood (Postmark).  Avocado toast in the morning and a digestive with tea in the afternoon. Strolls in West Village and the Upper West Side, and peek into a performance at Lincoln Center. And a green juice to close out the day.

Weekend

From a busy weekend with some great moments, even though I was feeling under the weather: "Z" by Therese Ann-Fowler and the Manhattan skyline. Finding a nice reminder in Union Square and listening to the tide at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Amusing and educating myself with books from The Strand and Barnes and Noble. Finally going to The Frick. Trying banana pudding on the Lower East Side, returning to explore Economy Candy, and buying green-tea-flavored candies.

And last but not least, finding the best and most New York coffee by the High Line. (Stumptown, you've been trumped!)

Thirty-One

The week in photos.

07/30/15: Slower than my race.
07/31/15: Banana pudding from Sugar Sweet Sunshine. (A little kid thought it was ice cream.)
08/01/15: That's right!
08/02/15: And I think I found the most "New York" coffee of them all. And it's delicious too.
08/03/15: Traditional chamber music rehearsal nosh. (Conversation not pictured.)
08/04/15: Right before one of the best dinners.
08/05/15: Summer skies.

Weekend

This past weekend featured such a great mix of culture, fitness, and food/drink, along with a few necessary errands.

On Saturday, I went to a rebounding class, which I enjoyed more after having first tried it last month. At night, I heard the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra perform Mozart's Symphony No. 34 and Brahms' Symphony No. 4 at Lincoln Center. I tried Vietnamese/Thai iced coffee from The Doughnut Plant (refreshing, just the right bitterness and sweetness until the end, when there was unfortunately an overly sweet layer of condensed milk on the bottom of the cup) and a pumpkin bun from The Golden Steamer (check).

On Sunday, I went to my first-ever barre class at the gym (I had previously tried barre at my former dance studio), which was challenging at times but which finished beautifully with Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah." I followed that with a small latte (just the right amount of bitterness and sweetness, just the right amount of caffeine) and avocado toast (topped with feta) at Bluebird, where I talked with a friendly Southern couple and their children. I explored and photographed more of the Lower East Side (more on that later). I capped off the evening with salted dark chocolate ice cream from Ample Hills in Gowanus.

This is just about how I'd like to spend the rest of my weekends. (I'd just add a little more culture and nature.) I can't wait till the next one!

Independence Day Weekend

This past long weekend was pretty good. I found time for dress-shopping (not successful yet) and my first-ever minor league baseball game on Country Music Night, complete with post-game fireworks. I went the wrong way on Bleecker St. and stumbled upon a newish soda fountain, where I enjoyed a chocolate malt. I tried Aroma again, ate birthday-cake-flavored ice cream, and did yoga. I'm looking forward to this weekend, and to the next one!

Weekend on the East Side

From a fun-filled but surprisingly very relaxing weekend, which is how I'd like to spend the rest of my weekends this month and next.

From a weekend where I saw Saturn through a telescope at Lincoln Center and couldn't believe it was real. Where I bounced on a mini-trampoline at a rebounding class at the gym (really intense and fun, and definitely worth repeating!). Where I finally went inside LadurĂ©e on the Upper East Side and tried cherry blossom and rose macarons. (The inside had a little parlor for desserts and teas, and the macarons seemed to taste better than others I've tried.) Explored the neighborhood two days in a row (more on that later). Learned some family history. Saw "Interstellar" after becoming familiar with it from its soundtrack (really enjoyed it). Drank a latte and ate a chocolate chip cookie at Everyman Espresso (just the right amount of bitterness, but not caffeinated enough. Great "chill" atmosphere.) To many more weekends like this!

Weekend in the Village

A scheduling error led to a quieter than normal weekend, but I still found ways to make it nice. Most of my weekend was spent in the Village, where I meditated over music and life. I caught "Eden," a thought-provoking film, at the IFC Center. I drank a latte and ate a Megpie at Stumptown (fantastic atmosphere and pastries, not-so-amazing coffee).

I also found time to run and do yoga in Brooklyn, as well as to indulge myself with books by and relating to my favorite author. I'll take it.

Weekend

From a half-weekend kind of weekend that I am re-claiming this morning. Some things I'd like to remember about these past few days: finding what may be my favorite coffee-house (foamy coffee, home-like place), though I'd have to go to Stumptown one more time to be sure. Discovering even more opportunities for the summer than I thought were possible, and delighting in using those as back-up summer plans for rainy days. Wearing summer colors. Running and jogging along the reservoir, and realizing that I never loved it as much as when I was running it, with the smell of fresh water in my nose and the wind blowing towards me. Daydreaming on the train, and finding moments of stillness when the D train's lights went off in a tunnel. Getting back into yoga at home, and realizing how good it feels. The Empire State building, all in white. Recipe-testing for this week's potluck at work. Warm weather followed by the inevitable, refreshing summer shower.

Have a happy Monday!

Long Weekend

This weekend was all about culture. I spent hours crisscrossing through the Met's exhibits, moved by "China: Through the Looking Glass" (and surprised to be moved by it), Degas' paintings and drawings, and an Amati violin. I walked through East Village, strolling through a pop-up street fair and attending performances at the Theater for the New City, walking into a performance of "La Vie En Rose" and exiting after a graceful dance performance. I ate the smoothest peppermint chip ice cream from Davey's (recommended!) and drank bubble tea. I made time for coffee-drinking at "Think" (watery, but great pastries!) and reading by Brooklyn Bridge Park's art installations. In keeping with the holiday, I finished off the weekend with a New York Phil concert focused on "defying oppression" and a cookie from Insomnia Cookies. (Levain is better, I think.)
