East 180 St.

As far as I can tell, the Bronx has some of the prettiest subway art. Once the train goes above ground, it stops at platforms with colorful glass windows featuring flowers and animals that look even more beautiful in the summer sunlight. These are from E. 180 St. on the 2/5 line.

From Houston St.

These are the uptown murals from the 1 line on Houston St., which are part of a 1994 series called "Platform Diving," by Deborah Brown. They're as dreamy as their downtown counterparts.

Prince St. (in b/w)

Prince St. on the N/R line has lovely little figures that represent New Yorkers well. There's the young man carrying a plant so large one wonders if it can fit on the train (could it be from IKEA?), the seemingly endless (and possibly patient) parents with their baby strollers, the old woman (of Eastern European origin?), the strangers making conversation, and the man and woman who live in separate worlds. 

There's so much to observe, I can't help but think of "Harriet the Spy." 

81st St - Natural History Museum

The 81st St. stop on the B/C line may be my favorite in Manhattan. It's diverse (there are four types of designs, two of which are pictured above), it's pretty, and it represents the stop well.

I just loved this mouse on 28th St. on the 2/3 line! My smile decreased when I saw it was part of a collection called "City Dwellers," but still. The cuteness!

All Aboard!

I found the Nostalgia Train parked at the 2nd Avenue station while I was aboard the F train bound for West 4th St. Knowing that it was not an everyday event, I immediately disembarked the F train to explore the special train. I enjoyed the old-time ads and fan, and laughed at how packed it was. New York is New York.

Some more subway art from the 1 line. I didn't think I'd get a chance to photograph the second set, at Houston, once I walked away from the West Village, but I found myself back there within hours.

Over the Weekend

Rejoicing in warm (if windy) spring days, and being thankful for being able to spend a peaceful weekend in NYC outside.
